NGATEA WIN
WAITAKARURU BEATEN HIGH SCHOOL VICTORY RUGBY MATCH ON PLAINS The Ngatea District High School boys played exceptionally well as a rugby team to defeat Waitakaruru Juniors at Ngatea on Saturday afternoon last. The final score was 19—0. Owing to the combination of the fast High School backs, the game was a very open one, and pleasing to the spectators. The forwards played as a pack throughout. Waitakaruru’s captain, N. Paton, was the outstanding player of the opposing fifteen. The first try was the result of a break-through by Shilton (Ngatea High School captain), supported by McKenzie. The second try came after a break-through by Prout, supported by Shilton and McKenzie, the latter scoring again. Shilton broke through with Sheppard in support to score the third try. A nicely combined movement by all the backs, Burton carrying the ball over the line, resulted in the fourth try. Shilton converted. The fifth try was a brilliant bit of work by McKenzie who ran the full length of the field, right around the Waitakaruru team, to score spectacularly between the posts. Shilton again added the major points. The game ended with the score standing at 19—0. The High School team lined out as under:— Forwards.—Sheppard, Cocks, L. Toner, Leonard, Pye, Jones, Kellow. Backs.—Kurtovich, Prout, Shilton, McKenzie, Burton, Hayes, Adam, Coxhead. Mr A. Cleave was referee.
