PAEROA INSTITUTE MEETS THIRTEENTH BIRTHDAY RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Women’s Institute was held in the Civic Hall on Tuesday, July 20, 1943, Mrs E. Hill presiding. Following the Women’s Institute Aspiration and 'Prayer the president referred with regret to the deaths of Mrs E. V. Slyfield, a former member and. president of the Iristitute and Mrs Harrison, a member of the Awhina Women’s Institute, expressing the condolence of the institute, and asking members to stand and observe one minute’s silence.

Suggestions were made regarding means to raise funds for soldiers’ parcels.

Mrs Tate reported, on the drama circle and expressed her satisfaction on the progress made. A report on the recently-formed Garden Club was given by Mrs E'. H. Williams, who also reminded members and intending members of an afternoon to be held at the residence of Mrs M. A. Hollinshead.

Discussion followed on the arrangements for the thirteenth birthday of the institute to be held in August. Mrs McKenna kindly offered to make the birthday cake, members to donate the necessary ingredients. The social half-hour was taken up with competitions and community

singing. The compeitions resulted as under:

Belt made from wool.—Mesdames Williams and Marsh (equal).

Rock cakes.—Mrs E. Hill. Best bloom.—Mrs D. Pearson. Bowl of Flowers.—Mrs E. Marsh. Best parsnip.—Mrs M. A. Hollinshead.

Satin table scarf presented by Mrs McKenna.—Master John Hollinshead.

Wandering shilling.—Mrs V. Turton.

Guessing competition.—Mrs D. Pearson.
