FIRE AT FACTORY
BIG LOSS AT COROMANDEL STORAGE SHED GUTTED BLAZE AT MUSSEL FACTORY Considerable damage occurred ~ at the Hauraki Packing Company’s ’ mussel factory at Coromandel on Friday night when fire destroyed a recently-erected building and damaged a large quantity of cases of canned mussels. The fire was first discovered, about 7 p.m. iby Mr Hinchco who noticed the glare in the sky, the fire by then being* well established. The Coromandel Volunteer FireBrigade was called and responded very promptly and it was due to their efforts that the main building housing* considerable valuable machinery was saved. . The large stock of canned mussels v held ready of shipment in the building* which - was gutted added to the difficulties of the brigade, making it diffi- . cult to get water into the seat of the: blaze. The cause of the fire is not known: but the loss is considerable and will result in the operations, of the firm being held up for some time.
