VALLEY RUGBY

UNION ANNUAL MEETING ELECTION OF OFFICERS NO REPRESENTATIVE GAMES The annual meeting of the Thames Valley Rugby Union was held in Paeroa on Saturday night, the president, Mr R. Carnachan presiding. Others present were Messrs D. G. McMillan, H. McGregor, W. F. F. Faber and R. L. Darley (Paeroa), W. Keliher, W. Cornes, A. Gillan (Te Aroha), A. Eklund, C. Bowden, C. R. Tilly (Waihi). The balance-sheet disclosed that the union had a credit balance of £3 14s 10d in current account and a credit of £l5B 2s- 5d in the travelling account. The annual report read as under:— “This is the twenty-first annual report on the activities of the Thames Valley Rugby Football Union for the 1942 season I submit for your consideration and approval. ‘The difficulties of providing transport due to the present world conflict have resulted in the suspension not only of games with outside unions but also, as far as senior grade football is concerned, of inter-sub-union matches. Let us hope that in the meantime sub-unions will be able to keep the game going, and that it will not be long before an Allied victory occurs and the good old game is once again flourishing.

“Sub-union matches were played as follows: Johnson Cup: In a good game Waihi were defeated by Paeroa at Paeroa, but later the trophy was lost to Thames, the present holders. For the following trophies no matches were played: Poland Cup, now held by Paeroa; Sharebrokers’ Cup, now held by Paeroa; McLean Cup, now held by Te Aroha; McGregor Cup, now held by Waihi; Duff Cup, now held by High School Old Boys, Waihi. “The council of the N.Z.R.F.U. after receiving assurance of full support from the unions decided not to hold the annual conference in 1942 and the new council was elected by postal ballot. The_ union supported the election of Mr A .A. Baker of Auckland as vice-president, and of Mr F. E. Sutherland of Auckland, as a member of the Council.

The election of officers resulted as under:—Patron, Mr J. W. Silcock (Paeroa); president, Mr R. Carnachan (Waihi); vice-presidents, Messrs D. G. McMillan (Paeroa), A. Gillan (Te Aroha), A. Eklund (Waihi); secretary, Mr C. R. Tilly (Waihi); treasurer, Mr W. P. McCarthy (Waihi); auditor, Mr H. L. Boughton; executive committee, Messrs R. Carnachan, C. R. Tilby, W. P. McCarthy, D. G. McMillan and A. Gillan.

It was decided that the competitions be left to the holders of the cups to arrange matches with other subunions if possible.
