SCALES WANTED
NEEDED” AT PAEROA SCHOOL NEW SYSTEM OF TEACHING An appeal for scales and weights, to assist in introducing at the Paeroa District High School a snore interesting system of teaching Counting to the infants, was made by the headmaster, Mr A. E. Day, at the recent social afternoon held by the Paeroa District High School Parents’ Association. Mr Day outlined to the parents a change which was being made by the infant mistress, Miss Murray, in the teaching of the little ones with regard to numbers. Instead of the usual routine teaching, Miss Murray, he said, was initiating a more interesting system of counting, where the children would be taught to distinguish and recognise coins, weights and inches. i This new idea was of the greatest value to the children, being thought-provoking and not merely a matter of memory. Miss Murray, for this new venture, has herself made rulers, pint measures, etc., but still requires scales and weights. Mr Day, therefore, made an appeal to parents to cooperate by giving any scales or weights they could spare.
