CONCRETE SHIPS

IMPROVEMENTS MADE NEW TYPE OF VESSEL ’Concrete ships built during the last war were not a great- success, but experiments in the United States indicate that improvements are being made, and a new type of concrete vessel was launched recently. This ship, it appears, is the forerunner of similar vessels to be built on a large scale. She was designed by Vladimir Yourkevitch, who was Responsible for the hull of the Normandie, and is 91ft 6in long and 14ft broad, with a draught of sft 9in and an average speed, it is hoped, of 71 knots. , x The larger ships proposed will be 240 ft long and will carry more than 2000 tons of cargo.
