NGATEA INSTITUTE

INTERESTING ADDRESS GIVEN RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS , The July meeting of the Ngatea Women’s Institute which was presided over by Miss A. Paul, the president,, was well attended by members and friends. Routine correspondence and remits for the Dominion Conference were read and discussed.

Mrs. Ludwig of Thames, a fullytrained V.A.D. gave a very interesting and helpful address on the origin and work of the St. John Ambulance j Division. Her address was very much appreciated as it dealt with every-day minor accidents and happenings. On the motion of the president she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and this was carried by. loud acclamation. The guest of honour was presented with a beautiful shoulder spray. The roll call, “What I would do in the event of an air raid,” was fairly well answered. The winners of the various competitions were as follow:— Best bloom. —Mrs E. J. Thomas 1, Mrs Wheeler 2. Floating coupe.—Miss Irwin 1, Mrs Wheeler 2. Vase of flowers.—Mrs R. B. Paul 1, Miss H. Paul 2. Best parsnip.—Miss Irwin 1, Miss Paul 2. Best pikelets.—Mrs Wheeler 1, Mrs Paul 2. . . The meeting closed with the serving of afternoon tea by the hostesses, Mesdames N. Alach,' G. Birkenhead and H. Colyer.
