RAGWORT ON HILLS
AREA AROUND MANGATARATA TURUA & KAIHERE BLACKBERRY That the hill country bordering the Hauraki Plains was still showing a good deal of ragwort was reported to Wednesday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council by the Noxious Weeds Inspector, Mr W. W. Williams. The report read as under:— “During the month I inspected a number of properties in Mangatarata and Kerepeehi districts. Many hill places around Mangatarata are still showing a deal of ragwort, but speaking generally, they are reasonably clean. “Blackberry offenders around Turua and Kaihere area; were visited. Where no reasonable assurance was given in regard to controlling same, notices have been sent out.” It was agreed that for the next few months the Noxious Weeds Inspector devote the bulk of his time to the question of noxious weeds with particular attention to the eradication ofjt ragwort. Members agreed that at present, with the grass short, the ragwort chimps were easily seen and if treated before they flowered much would be achieved in stamping the menace out.
