MAIN HIGHWAYS
PRESENT WAR-TIME POLICY ADVICE TO OHINEMURI COUNTY The war-time policy of the Main Highways Board in reference to. new road construction came under review at the Ohinemuri County Council meeting on Wednesday, when a letter was received from the No. 2 Main Highways District Council, stating that the Main Highways Board had advised that the limited funds avail-
able to the board during the current year made it necessary to continue the policy followed last year, and confine any increase in mileage of highways to that due to unavoidable adjustments. This year’s annual review would therefore be rektiicted to adjustments in the main highways system, where such adjustments were found to fie necessary or desirable owing' to changes in traffic conditions. The chairman, Mr W. Marshall, in proposing that the letter be received, said the council could only accept the position indicated in the letter, in the hope that the new road construction in which the council was interested would be kept in view by the reading authorities. Councillors drew attention to the need for keeping before the Main Highways Board the county’s desire to have the Franklin road, Waihi, and the Top road and Waitoki road, Mangaiti, declared main highways. The letter was received.
