PARENTS’ EVENING
COROMANDEL GIRL GUIDES AN INTERESTING FUNCTION A most enjoyable evening was 1 organised by Miss G. Russell and Miss S. Benham for the purpose of entertaining Guides’ parents and friends. There was a large attendance of Guides, four patrols in all. The evening commenced with an inspection of all patrols by their leader, Miss S. Benham. A. song of welcome was then given by the Guides. An interesting knot relay was held between four teams of Guides, four Guides in a team, the knots tied being the sheet bend, fisherman’s, reef and bow line. A game of noughts and crosses played by a large square marked on the floor .and human beings being used as noughts and crosses proved very interesting. Then followed “The Grand Old Duke of York’.’ which caused much amusement and was also very invigorating. . A recitation “Counting Our Blessings” was given by Guide June Ailington. A folk dance “Selenger’s Round” was done by a squad of Guides. A game called “Musical Touch” was played which caused quite, a lot of fun. A duet was given in costume by Guides Hilda Inglis and Dawn Glogoski “Where are you going’ my pretty maid ? ” A signalling display of morse was given by Lieutenant Dorothy Inglis. Guide Noeline Savage recited “Miss Nan Knockabout.” Then followed another game called “Stepping Stones.” A very graceful display of eurythmics was given by a squad of Guides. The game of Musical .Broom was then indulged in. A character song by Guides Hilda Inglis and Vilma Jane, “Silver Threads Amongst the Gold” was a very popular item. The game of Animal, Vegetable or Mineral tested the thinking powers of the visitors. Guide Loma Strongman recited the “Guide Law” and “Promise.” Then followed the singing of the “Guide Taps” by the whole of the company. Patrol-Leader Peggy Ward and Guide Loma Strongman proved very able accompanists. A very pleasant evening was concluded by the singing of the National Anthem.
