THRONG OF DANCERS FUNCTION HELD IN PAEROA PATRIOTIC FUNDS ASSISTED A very large throng of dancers and spectators attended the annual Paeroa District High School Ball which was held in the Regent Ballroom on Thursday evening last in aid of Patriotic Funds. The ballroom was most artistically decorated with punga ferns and greenery, these forming a background for the large paper flowers and butterflies which rioted over the walls. Miss McFarlane of the High School staff assisted by pupils was responsible for. the gay effect achieved by these decorations and a colourful note •was added to the surroundings. Together with the different hued frocks, a delightful scene was presented. The ball was an outstanding success and great credit is due to those of the staff, pupils and parents’ association who gave so much of their time to ensure its success. Supper which was served in buffet fashion in the adjoining Civic Hall was an excellent one and the music provided by the orchestra was, appreciated by the many dancers.
The Misses p. and A. Royal joined in with the orchestra and were particularly pleasing with their harmony when singing the popular number “ White •Christmas.” ’ , During the evening the headmaster, Sir A. E. Day, introduced Mr C. Webb, chairman of the school committee who took the opportunity to thank one and all for their' attendance and particularly the staff,, parents’ association and pupils, .for their splendid effort. The Mayor, Mr E. Edwards, then spoke briefly, adding his thanks to ijhose who had organised the function and said how grateful the Paeroa District Patriotic Committee was for the thought to hand over all the money raised to the 1943 All Purposes Patriotic Appeal. Mr Day thanked the parents for their generosity in providing the delicious supper. Winners of the Monte Carlo waltzes were Miss Eualine Handley and partner and Miss Colleen Scott and Stewart Wheeler.
