SOCIAL FOR VOLUNTEERS SUCCESSFUL EVENING PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of July 12, 1903.) . The Criterion Theatre was crowded last night on the occasion of the social in connection with the No. 1 Ohinemuri Rifles Volunteers. The interior of the building had been most artistically decorated with flags and greenery and presented a very pretty sight. The floor was in good order and the supper was tip top. The music was supplied, by Miss Capill (piano), Miss Pugh (violin), and Mr Mettam (cornet), and left nothing to be desired. . Lieutenant Hubbard made an efficient M.C., while Miss Shaw, con--1 ducted the euchre tournament in •a satisfactory manner. The ladies’ prizes in the euchre were won by Miss Millgrew (first) and Miss Lyes (second), the successful gentleman being Mr Forsyth (first) and Mi* Byrne (second), The “booby” prizes fell to Miss Cock and Mr Searle. Towards the end of the evening Colonel Porritt presented the prizes won in the euchre tourna-i ment and also the Bradford Memorial Belt (won by Sergeant Shaw), the 'Gimblett Cup (won by Private Roach) and the prizes won for ladies by competitors in the Bradford Belt Competition, the fortunate ladies being Mrs Ogden, Mrs Nathan and Miss Sil-, cock.*, The colonel also took an opportunity of thanking all those present who had assisted to make the. social such a success, more especially the members of the ladies’ committee.
