MENACING ROAD

EROSION AT WAITAKARURU HAURAKI WEST DRAINAGE MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD A meeting of the Hauraki Plains West Drainage Board was held in the office of the secretary at Ngatea, on Wednesday, the chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt presiding. Others present were Messrs J. Donaghy, A. Douglas, F. Pinchess, H. T. P. Evans and the secretary, Mr F. E. Hammond. Leave of absence was granted Mr T. A. McClean.

Mr J. C. Foote wrote advising that he had taken steps to control his pigs which had been damaging the drains. The chairman said that the board would have to claim for the extra cost involved in cleaning the drain due to damage done by the pigs. The secretary was instructed to do this when the contractor’s account came to hand. The fact that Mr J. R. Climo had no fences along the drains bounding his property was brought to' the notice of the board and the secretary was instructed to write and advise Mr Climo that the board required fences to be put into repair at once. The secretary reported on the financial position of the board, stating that at date outstanding rates were: Puhanga Island £lO7 Ils Od, Waitakaruru Sub-division £25, Ngatea-Pipi-roa Sub-division £l9O Is Bd, totalling £323 4s lid. The financial position of each area was as follows: Puhanga Island £245 4s Od debit balance; Waitakaruru sub-division £lB9 13s lOd; Ngatea-Pipiroa sub-division. £446 5s lOd. The erosion caused by the river at Waitakarusu near the garage was referred to by Mr Pinchess who emphasised that the damage was now menacing the Paeroa-Pokeno Main Highway. It was decided to write to the Public Works Department, Paeroa, asking that the matter be attended to. Accounts totalling £544 6s 8d were passed for payment.
