CARD PARTY
SUCCESSFUL AFTERNOON PATRIOTIC FUNDS AIDED FUNCTION HELD IN PAEROA A most successful and enjoyable card afternoon was held on Thursday afternoon at the Commercial Hotel. Mesdames E. P. Fathers, W. Fathers and T. Monaghan acted as hostesses to the large number of ladies present. Both the lounge and sitting room were filled to capacity and the games played were bridge, five hundred and housey. A most apetising afternoon tea was dispensed and at a suitable interval Mrs E. P. Fathers took the opportunity to award prizes to the following: Bridge.—Mrs A. F. Maude 1, Mrs V. Boles 2. 'Consolation: Mrs E. Hunt. Five hundred.—Mrs D. Vincent. Competition.—Mrs V. Boles and Margaret Young. The Mayoress, Mrs E. Edwards, offered thanks to the hostesses for the very pleasant afternoon they had organised. The excellent sum of £2O was raised by the function and this.amount is to swell the 1943 All Purposes Patriotic Appeal.
