FORTY YEARS AGO

FACTORY IN COROMANDEL PAEROA HOCKEY TEAM MATCH AGAINST CAMBRIDGE (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of July 5, 1903.) There is some talk of starting a creamery and butter factory in Coromandel. This is a new departure for Coromandel. We are glad to see it is just beginning to wake up. One man said that, milk suppliers in a comparatively small way could make from £5 to £lO per month. So they can; but is there sufficient suitable, land round Coromandel to produce the necessary feed for them. We hope there is. The match between the Cambridge and Paeroa hockey teams which was played at Cambridge on Wednesday afternoon, caused quite a little commotion. The following members left by the morning train on Wednesday for Cambridge to take part in the game: Mrs Brunskill, Misses Kenny (2), Shaw (2), Edwards (2), Adeline Coote, E. Hubbard, • McAndrew, Inglis, Delany and, Moreland. After a very hardfought game the Paeroa team proved victorious by one goal to nil. In the evening a dance was held in honour of the visitors, who all express themselves as having been well treated at the hands of the Cambridge Hockey Club.
