WORKERS HELP

THIRD LIBERTY LOAN TOKEN OF GRATITUDE INVESTMENT FOR FARMERS The Third Liberty Loan closes 1 Saturday, July 10, therefore strenuous efforts are needed in the next fortnight. “It would be a splendid and well-earned token of gratitude to our fighting men and confidence in the future,” states the National War Loan Committee, “if the loan is oversubscribed before closing date.” - Modern war loans have passed out of the sphere of what is popularly called high finance just as the miseries and blood sacrifices of the war reach civilians and soldiers alike so the financing of equipment the paying and feeding of our fighting men has become the concern of everyone on the home front. When thirty-five ' millions are needed for this loan all classes must contribute not merely the cash they believe they can comfortably spare ■but a good deal more cash raised by pledging assets still safe and valuable because men have died to keep the

Japanese invader from our shores. Industrial workers have been directly approached to save and invest in war bonds or the national savings accounts. The £lO bonds-, bought in three weeks number 11571 valued at £253,120, the pound bonds bought by £28,110 people account for £55,918 while the National Savings Accounts have reached the creditable total of 55,000 representing £1,021,777 placed at the country’s disposal for the war. Every class in the community has received special attention from the local war loan committees and great help is being given by stock and station agents in facilitating a personal approach to farmers who attend .the seasonal clearing sales looking for first-class stock. They are asked to consider another type of first-class stock, th Liberty Loan scrip. Wool producers welcome the Government’s decision to permit non-transferable bonds issued in connection with retention of part of the increased wool prices to be converted into Third Liberty Loan stock. The president of the Farmers’ Union, Mr W. W. Mulholland states: “Now that it has been done I urge allfarmers and specially sheep farmers to show their appreciation by making a special effort to contribute the utmost possible.” The Royal New Zealand Air Force is helping the loan campaign this week and its highly interesting demonstrations are sure to stimulate subscriptions.

The loan investments so far give credit to bond purchasers and national savings depositors show that .124,121 New Zealandefs on the home frdnt have risen to the national occasion. It is impossible to reach everyone with a personal appeal though it is everyone’s duty to subscribe. However, nobody is remote from the means of investment, there are about 900 post offices waiting to do business’.
