TWO FACTORIES CLOSED
LAND RUINED BY RAGWORT COUNTY COUNCILS CONCERNED CONFERENCE HELD IN HAMILTON ft GROWING MENACE IN SOUTH AUCKLAND That already in the Taranaki district two dairy factories had been closed because of the inroads made by ragwort into good dairyng land" was among the facts brought to the notice of representatives of. all county councils from the Thames Valley, Waikato, King Country and Bay of Plenty which met in conference in Hamilton on Wednesday to discuss ways and means of combating the menace which in recent years has assumed serious proportions in the highly productive district of South Auckland. The conference which had been convened by the Hauraki Plains County Council at the instigation of the Ohinemuri County Council and Piako County Council agreed that ragwort' was a serious menace and methods adopted by the various local bodies with suggestions as to its proper eradication were discussed, a number of recommendations being carried before the meeting closed.
