CORONER’S VERDICT

ACCIDENT AT KOPUARAHI DEATHS OF TWO NATIVES An inquest was opened at Thames on Tuesday morning into the deaths of two natives, Tainui Ngaki, aged 50- years, and Richard Ngaki, aged five years, which occurred at Kopuarahi on June 3, when the car in which they and other passengers were travelling overturned into a large drain. After hearing the evidence, the coroner, Mr W. Bongard, returned a verdict that death in both cases was due to suffocation through the inhalation of liquid mud. A woman, Mrs Candy, who resides near the scene of the accident, was commended by the coroner for her good work in taking the injured passengers into her home and caring for them.
