BOOTS AND TYRES
WASTE RUBBER USED IN N.Z. NEED TO RECLAIM ALL WASTE One hundred tons of waste rubber salvaged in New Zealand since the outbreak of war is being used for the manufacture of rubber soles and 250 tons of reclaimed rubber is being made into battery boxes for essential purposes. In addition 50 tons of waste is being converted into gum boots, 75 tons into jungle boots for troops and 30 tons into cycle tyres at present in short supply. These figures were quoted by Mr D. B. Higgins, organiser for the Auckland Reclamation of Waste Material Committee when emphasising at a meeting in Paeroa recently the urgent need for reclaiming all waste rubber.
