OBITUARY
MRS C. J. S. KIDD, OF PAEROA ONE OF THE EARLY PIONEERS With the death, which occurred this morning at Thames, of Mrs Cecilia Jane Simpson Kidd, aged 77 years, yet another of the .early pioneers of New Zealand passed on. Born at Wa’rkworth, Scotland, in 1866, the late Mrs Kidd spent some 71 years in New Zealand, coming out to this country with her people in the sailing ship Selina in the year 1872. Mrs Kidd was a daughter of the late Rev. William Stewart, a former well-known Presbyterian minister of Marton. When the family first reached New Zealand they landed at Wellington where they stayed with the Rev. u. Patterson, the father’ of Mrs E. A. PorritJ, of Paeroa. They later moved to Marton and then to Kiwitea, near Fielding, where they lived for a number'of years. It was while she was a resident of that district that Mrs Kidd was married to the late Mr George Kidd, a farmer of Kiwitea. In 1915 the late Mr and Mrs Kidd moved to Hikutaia, farming in that district until 1920 when they moved to Tauranga. Later they moved to Gisborne, returning to settle in Paeroa 14 years ago. The late Mrs Kidd is survived by two brothers, Messrs David Stewart, Paeroa, and H. K. Stewart, Fielding, one son, Corporal J. R. Kidd, of Paeroa and five grandchildren, FlyingOfficer C. R. Kidd, R.N.Z.A.F. (Rhodesia); Flight Sergeant Willis Kidd, R.N.Z.A.F. (Canada); L.A.C. J. F. Kidd, R.N.Z.A.F. (New Zealand) and Misses Audrey and Margaret Kidd. The funeral will leave the residence of her son, Corporal J. R. Kidd, tomorrow for the Paeroa cemetery.
