A GOOD MEMBER
SERVICE TO THE COUNTY Cr. M. ELLIS FAREWELLED PRESENTATION FROM COUNCIL “ That we place on record and convey to Cr. Ellis our deep appreciation of the service Which he has rendered to the ratepayers during his 11 years as a councillor and three years as representative on the Thames > Hospital Board and we wish Mr and Mrs Ellis long life, health and happiness,” was a resolution carried at Wednesday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council. Mr M. A. Ellis who has been a member of the council since 1932 tendered his resignation on Monday because he has sold his property at Hikutaia and his future home will be in Auckland.
The chairman, Mr W. Marshall, spoke highly of the service which Mr Ellis had given to the county and expressed the council’s regret at losing such a good member—one who it had always been easy to work with. Mr Ellis, continued Mr Marshall, had proved a good colleague on the council and had faithfully and energetically looked after the interests of the Komata Riding.' Never Been Parochial He had never been parochial and had always looked at everything from the point of view of the whole county and the district was under a debt of gratitude to him for the service he had given both on the council and the Thames Hospital Board. Cr. Ellis was held in high regard by his colleagues all of whom were sorry indeed to learn of his resignation. In conclusion Mr Marshall wished both Mr and Mrs Ellis the very best of health and happiness in their weliearned retirement. Cr. T. A. Barrett the remarks passed by the chairman, adding that he had known the Ellis family for over 30 years. He wished Mr and Mrs Ellis and their family all the best for the future. Tributes From Councillors Crs. J. J. .Shellue, T. Cotter, C. Christiansen, L. G. Leopold, G. Avery, F. L. Franklin, the county clerk, Mr A. A. Jenkinson, and the county engineer, Mr L. E. Shaw, all spoke expressing their appreciation of the service given to the county by Mr Ellis and wishing him happiness in the future. Mr Ellis was presented with a barometer and a silver cake dish by the council as a token of their esteem and appreciation. Mr Ellis suitably replied.
