WAITAKARURU INSTITUTE
HANDWORK COMPETITION
INTERESTING TALK ON INDIA
A very enjoyable Institute meeting was held in Waitakaruru recently the outstanding feature being a visit from Mrs Longmuir Smith, of Thames. Mrs Longmuir Smith gave an interesting talk on her life in India and also displayed a collection of •beautiful samples of Indian handwork. A short talk on the constitution of the Institute was given by Mrs Wallace.
Mrs Pacey was chosen as the delegate to represent Waitakaruru at the Dominion conference to be held in Gisborne in July. During the afternoon articles for the handwork competition at the conference were exhibited by the individual makers. Mrs Laing displayed her papier-mache tray, Mrs Hinton a pixie cap, Mrs Hegh, cushion, Mrs Pacey, handmade doll, Mrs Jellie, a novelty brooch, and Mesdames Caie and Cropp and Miss J. Coxhead each exhibited a handmade handkerchief.
The hostesses for the day were the members from Shell Road.
