MUD ON HAURAKI PLAINS SATURDAY NIGHT DANCES FUNCTIONS IN NGATEA HALL (From the Hauraki Plains Gazette of June 9, 1923.) The Lands Department gauge - at Kerepeehi showed that rain fell on twenty days during May. The total of 3.32 inches is about the average, but the number of wet days was more than is usual, and the effect can be seen in the countryside. There probably never was so much mud about as at present, for the ground has not had a chance, to dry. Feed is rank and contains little nourishment. The Ngatea Hall Society has inaugurated a series of Saturday night dances. There was only a small attendance at the first dance, but the funds benefitted by almost twice as much as would have been received under the previous arrangements. It is hoped that when the object of the dances and the manner in which they are conducted becomes known that they will become* very popular. .The necessity for enlarging the hall and for pro viding a supper room has become urgent but the society considers that the present debt should be removed before more is incurred. The present income should do this within a year or two. Electric light has been installed and ample provision made for head and footlights on the stage, so the hall is now more attractive for concert parties. 4iHiiiniwiiniMiniima!i[Himnii,iiiiiniiiiiiiiiiiii>iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiqnjiiii|jiiiniJiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
