£252 RAISED
ALL PURPOSES APPEAL WORK ON THE PENINSULA £1590 WANTED FROM DISTRICT • That to date £252 5s 2d has been raised in the Coromandel Peninsula for the 1943 All Purposes Appeal is disclosed by Mr J. H. Lucas in the monthly circular of the Coromandel Inter-Zone Patriotic Committee. A statement of the money collected to date is given as under: — Suggested Received to Quota May 31
“In circular No. 31 I suggested this quota was asked for during the financial year ending September 30, 1943, but on checking back I find no authority for this and I rather think that the appeal is for the ' calendar year as ft is called the 1943 Appeal. The last appeal, 1942, although expected to end with the Patriotic financial year which is September 30 was actually extended to January 31, 1943. “Let me suggest then that we get on with the job and . show how well the cash can come in. Already some committees are hot on the job and their efforts are to be commended. In circular No. 31 I asked committees to let me know if the last lot had all been returned, the response has been nearly nil. 'One committee is doing an excellent job in this connection and far exceeds all the others put together. “My records of men and women in the forces is very incomplete. I will at first opportunity make up a roll of the. names I have so that all committees can go over it and help to fill up the vacancies. Gift Parcels “Owing to the difficulty of procuring suitable goods in the country districts and also to make for uniformity in packing and ease of distribution, parcels are now being made’up in bulk and the cost is debited to the zone. Anyone who wishes to pay in towards gift parcels can do so and the receipts will be marked gift parcels fund. The amount of course adds on to the total quota of cash asked for in the appeal. “Rehabilitation under Patriotic heading is not to be confused with the rehabilitation schemes being drawn up by the Government but is a heading under which patriotic can be given in those cases which are not provided for. The Inte,r-Zone Committee therefore asks that any cases where circumstances are known of 'special hardships or that satisfaction cannot be obtained by the individual through the normal channel then a confidential memo be sent here so that the case can be investigated and assistance be granted where possible. “Thanks For Everything” i “In the latest National Patriotic Board’s Bulletin under the above heading is recorded various tributes to the work of the Patriotic fund in a magazine produced on- board a Middle East troopship. Among other items is a list of goods supplied by the board including 275,00 D cigarettes, 2900 packets of cigarette tobacco, 960 packets of pipe tobacco, writing material, song books, crib boards, darts, quoits, playing cards, 2593 books, 2500 periodicals. One hundred and. seventy-three cases were required to accommodate the gifts which weighed nearly eight tons. “Another item, the forces in the Pacific have produced their own newspaper called the “Kiwi,” the plant was provided by Patriotic funds to tne extent of £lOOO, Administration Costs
“A point worth noting is that the board’s administration expenses , for the year were still further reduced. They amount to the small sum* of 2s 8d per £lOO of receipts. The previous figure was 4s 5d per £100.”
