FAREWELL HELD AT HIKUTAIA

MR & MRS LITTLEJOHN LEAVE

A number of' Hikutaia residents gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs H. Littlejohn of Ferry road on Friday last when a farewell afternoon was tendered to them on the eve of their departure for Auckland where they will in future reside. A much larger farewell, to take place in the Hikutaia Hall had been planned, but owing to Mrs Littlejohn being indisposed this had to be cancelled and a small number of close friends were present, when on behalf of the people of Hikutaia, Mr Geo. Avery presented Mr and Mrs > Littlejohn with a handsome chromium - standard lamp complete with a beautiful shade of green and beige. In making the presentation Mr Avery said how little Hikutaia could afford to lose old and respected citizens like Mr and Mrs Littlejohn, but j he knew they had both worked hard I and were well entitled to their rest and he wished them every happiness and prosperity when settled in Auckland. '

- Replying to ’Mr Avery, Mr Littlejohn thanked him for his kind words and the people of Hikutaia for their splendid present, neither Mrs Littlejohn nor himself would ever forget Hikutaia wherever they might be. Mr and Mrs Littlejohn have resided in Hikutaia for over 30 years during which time they were mostly farming in Ferry road but for a number of years Mr Littlejohn was the blacksmith for the district. i A dainty afternoon tea was served to all present by Mrs Littlejohn’s daughter and daughter-in-law, Mrs Wallace and Mrs Murphy. j The ladies present were:— I Mesdames Wallace, Murphy, G.
