BUILDING ON THE PLAINS BRIDGE UP ON MAIN ROAD z — TRAVELLERS INCONVENIENCED (From the Hauraki (Plains iGazette of June 4, 1923) There is' considerable building activity on various parts of the Hauraki Plains at present, particularly around Ngatea and Waitakaruru. Timber is lying on most of the wharves. At Waitakaruru a residence is being . constructed in concrete. The additions to |he Ngatea School are almost completed. A good deal of inconvenience was caused the travelling public yesterday through the Public Works Department pulling up a bridge on the main Netherton road without giving any notice whatsoever. People travelling from Paeroa end had to retrace their steps some three miles and proceed via Wilson’s road, while travellers to Paeroa were caused a like inconvenience. Had a notice been posted at the end of Wilson’s road or on the Puke bridge to warn travellers from Paeroa and a similar notice near the Netherton school, much inconvenience and annoyance would have been saved. It is to be hoped that such high-handed conduct by the officials will not be passed un-noticed.
