HAVE YOU EVER TRIED THIS? Skirts and jackets may be made for an adult from different coloured flannel garments. When the garments are complete have them dyed one colour and wear as a suit. A flannel dressing-gown and the backs of discarded school or sports blazers are suitable for making such a suit or a dress for a slim person. Stitch a hook and eye at the end of a zip fastener on your skirt so that the fastener will not slip open with the weight of the skirt. Be sure to sew the eye into the small link at the top of the jaws of the fastener. At a fete for patriotic purposes a prize given for the most decorative vase of foliage (no flowers) was won by sprays of liquidambar in an old brass vase. No orchid could have looked more majestic than those leaves. A handy soap-scraper can be made from a bottle-top nailed to the end of a short piece of broomstick; it is easier and safer to handle than a knife and makes finer shavings. Put a string through the other end and hang in the laundry. If, after being used to modern squared shoulders, who consider cardigans rather old-fashoined with their dtoopy shoulders, stitch pads into the shoulders of cardigans and jumpers as well as dresses. The straight shoulder-line given by soft shoulder pads makes a wonderful difference.
