CENTRAL COMMITTEE HOME GUARD PERSONNEL BOYS WANTED AS MESSENGERS The Mayor, Mr E. Edwards, presided on Monday evening at a .meeting of the Paeroa E.P.S. Central Committee, held in the Borough Council Chambers. Those present in addition to the chairman were Messrs R. A. Mace, C. C. Webb, H. M. Shand, A. A. Jenkinson, R. P. Ganley, .J. Walmsley, D. 'G. McMillan, N. G. McLeod (Chief Lighting Warden), Constable J. L. Brown, Rev. J. R. Nelson (deputising for Mr R. L. Darley), with Mr R. S. Carden (hon. secretary). Major J. H. Bartlett (O.C. Paeroa Battalion Home Guard), was present by invitation. After hearing a statement from Major Bartlett, measures were decided upon for securing the extended co-operation of ■ the Home Guardias occasion requires, in the E.P.S. procedure. The headmaster of the Paeroa District High School, Mr A. E. Day, it to be consulted as to the possibility of supplementing the messenger services at alerts, etc., with senior boys from the public school. It was reported that a re-distribu-tion of the personnel of some units of the E.P.S., by drafting some members to the Home Guard ’ has been decided upon, after consultation with Major G. R. Hutchinson (chairman of District Personnel Committees). Subject to his being able to secure leave of absence from his employ, Mr R. P. Ganley was appointed to represent Paeroa, at a course of special training lectures for E.P.S.’ units to be held in Wellington during the ensuing week. It was announced that an early demonstration trial of the new siren had been arranged for.
