GAY COMEDY

“THIEVES FALL OUT” PROGRAMME AT REGENT “PACIFIC BLACKOUT” ALSO “Thieves Fall Out,” the effervescent, gay Warner Bros, comedy hit will show at the Regent Theatre on Thursday and Friday. Eddie Albert and lovely Joan Leslie play the stellar roles in the heart-warming tale of two young people who are buffeted about by fate,' but who ; manage nevertheless to find happiness and a future together. Albert, star of many comedy hits, is cast as a young man who sells a valuable legacy in order to set himself up in business. Things don’t pan out too well, and gangsters step in, demanding the quick payment of a mere 75,000 dollars! In desperation the lad turns to his grandmother, played by Jane Darwell, who manages to straighten out things in her own unique way.

A splendid cast of popular favourites support these players. They include: Alan Hale, William T. Orr, John Libel, Minna Gombell, Etta McDaniel, Nana Bryant, Vaughan Glaser, Anthony Quinn and Ed Brophy. Ray Enright directed “Thieves Fall Out” for Warner Bros, from a screenplay by Ben Markson and Charles Grayson.

“Pacific Blackout”

Robert Preston and Martha O’Driscoll have an exciting time together in Paramount’s timely and fast-pac-ed melodrama, “Pacific Blackout,” which will also show at the Regent Theatre on Thursday and Friday. The film’s swift action takes place in a large American west Coast city during a practice blackout and air raid alert. Preston, a young inventor, is sentenced to death for a murder committed by a ring of international spies. Martha helps him escape and, while sirens wail and bombers roar overhead, she helps him run down the killers and capture the enemy agents. Despite its thrills and grim background, the picture is loaded with comedy. Philip Merivale plays the spy leader. Others in the cast are Eva Gabor, Louis Jean Heydt, Thurston Hall, Mary Treen, J.
