WINS BY NGATEA FACTORY GIRL INJURED IN FALL FARMERS’ VETERINARY CLUB (From the Hauraki Plains Gazette of May 31, 1923) In the dairy produce section at the Waikato Winter Show, for a box of 561 b. of butter made by buttermaker or first assistant, for export, Mr C. G. Mellor, of Ngatea, tied* with five others for first place out of a competition of 69 entries. For a box of butter for export, by members of the New Zealand Factory Managers’ Association, Mr A. J. Garry, manager of the local factory, secured third place with 94a points. A meeting of the executive committee of the Fanners’ Veterinary Club was held on Saturday afternoon at Ngatea, Mr C. H. Waite presiding. Mr H. Schwartz was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr H. Berney. It was decided that a list of outstanding accounts should be put in the hands of the club’s solicitor. Arrangements were made to canvass Turua for members. While riding home from football at Patetonga on Saturday, a girl named Mavis Senior, aged 15, met with a serious accident. Her horse slipped while crossing a bridge and threw her’ against the railings, and a fractured skull was the result. She was conveyed to the Thames hospital on Monday, still in an unconscious state.
