REV. THOMSON LEAVES CHURCH PRESENTATION SOCIAL FOR CONVENT FUNDS (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of May 28, 1903.) On Tuesday evening a very pleasant time was spent at the residence of Mrs McAndrew, when the Rev. A. D. Thomson, of Thames, was presented on the occasion of his leaving the district, by the Kirk Session and Committee of Management of the Paeroa Presbyterian Church, with a handsome dressing case and travelling bag as a recognition of his services as Moderator during a term of two years. In the course of the evening musical items were rendered by Mesdames Brodie and Highfield, and Messrs Brodie, Fewell and Highfield. Before separating, a hearty vote of thanks was tendered to Mrs McAndrew for her kindness in entertaining the party. A very interesting social in aid of the Paeroa Convent fund was held in Ryan’s Hall, Karangahake, on Friday evening last. There was a large attendance —some 90 couples gracing the floor. Very excellent music was supplied by Mrs Barlow Houghton (piano) and Mr J. Henius (violin). Mr R. Noonan made a courteous and efficient M.C. During the evening some excellent items were rendered. The ladies’ committee supplied a very delicious supper, which needless to say was done full justice to. The cribbage tournament in connection with the social was won by Mr M. Marrinan. Special attention had been given to the preparation of the floor, and this, coupled with excellent music, made dancing most enjoyable. The evening was the most successful of its kind held for a long time in Karangahake.
