WHAREPOA FAREWELL

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE FUNCTION

PRESENTATION FROM MEMBERS

Members of the Wharepoa Women’s Institute one ofternoon last week gathered at the home of Mrs G. G. Bax to bid farewell to Mrs A. McCollum, one of the most popular and prominent members and also a past secretary of the Institute. Mrs McCollum will in the future reside in Maratoto Valley, Hikutaia.

Bowls of autumn tinted flowers and leaves decorated the large liv-ing-room and all present spent a jolly afternoon in competitions and charades, the outstanding effort in the latter being an impersonation of ■Princess Te Puea by the guest of honour, Mrs McCollum. Great merriment was caused by a sketching competition, the subject being the Institute president. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostess to all present, and then the president of the Institute, Mrs W. Brunton, junr., on behalf of the members, presented Mrs McCollum with a beautiful gift set and a shoulder spray of sweet peas, love in the mist and maidenhair fern, the work of Mrs G. Henwood.

I In doing this, Mrs Brunton said ' how very sorry they all felt at losing such a hard-working and popular member and they wished her to accept their small gift as an appreciation of the help she had always so willingly given to the Institute. Coupled wi<h the gift, said Mrs Brunton, were the , very best wishes for health, happi- ; ness and prosperity for the future. I “For She’s a Jolly 'Good Fellow” ; was heartily sung. 1 Present were: Mesdames A. Mc- ' Collum, G. Bax, H. Bax, Brunton, junr., Brunton, senr., G. Henwood, G. Innis, A. Bax (Patamahoe), Davies, McManemin (Auckland), A. Bax, junr., Misses H. Innis and N. McCollum.
