Thames County Chairman At the annual meeting of the Thames County Council, Mr D. Courtney, the sitting chairman, was reelected unopposed, his nominators being Crs C. D. Stone and A. Duncan. That the work on the River road culvert extension at Ngatea was nearing completion was reported to Wednesday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council by the engineer, Mr J. C. Clarke. Mr J. W. Neate expressed, his appreciation of the excellent job done at this corner by the engineer. It had been a difficult task, conditions being very.bad for the work. Technical Education
The rapid development of secondary industries in New Zealand, a development intensified by the war, would impose new tasks f on the country’s education system, and particularly on the technical schools, said the Minister of Education, Mr H. G. R. Mason, when addressing the conference, of Technical School teachers which concluded in Wellington recently. But, he continued, it should be understood that technical school education was not regarded as purely utilitarian in contrast to other culural education. The technical schools, which went back 60 years to their origin, represented a progressive change in the Dominion’s education system, and the more other schools could embody their general principles the better for education.
