Big Bastille Day Demonstration At Lyons : 100,000 Patriots Respond to De Gaulle’s Appeal: All over unoccupied France French patriots gathered in response to General de Gaulle’s appeal to the French people to hold disciplined demonstrations on July 14, Bastille Day, between 5 and 7 p.m. Huge crowds gathered at Marseille where three men and one woman were shot. 100,000 patriots marched trough the beflagged streets of Lyons to the strains of the Marsellaise. The Rue de la Republique, Lyons, between 6.50 and 6.55 on Bastill Day, 1942. Thousands march down the street while sympathisers throng the pavements Houses are beflagged. Police arrive and form a barrage blocking the route to remonstrators.
