PAEROA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE FAREWELL TO MRS WARRENDER The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Wonjen’s Institute was held on Tuesday, May 18, in the Civic Hall. Mrs E. Hill presided. The meeting was opened with the singing of the National Anthem followed by the Institute Theme Song, the pianist being Mrs V. Turton. The motto for May was, “Nobody needs a smile so much as those who have none to give.” Remits from Institutes in the Auckland Federation were considered and votes recorded. Thanks of the members of the Institute went to Mrs E. H. Andrews for the making of the Anzac Day wreath. A bouquet of flowers was presented to Mrs F. H. Warrender on her departure to reside in Waihi, the president remarking on the good work done by her while a member of the Women’s Institute of Paeroa. Mrs N. H. Alexander received the floral birthday spray. An interesting impromptu debate was held, the subject being country life versus town life. The pros and cons were lively discussed. During the social half-hour charades were presented by committee members, a prize being awarded to Mrs Warrender for the highest number of correct interpretations. Winners of the monthly competitions were:— Apply Jelly.—Mrs Williams. Kettle Holder.—Mrs E. Hill. Best Bloom. —Mrs Peterson.
