KILLED IN ACTION SERGEANT H. (BERT) WALKER Reported missing on July 22, now killed in action, Sergeant T./(Bert) Walker, of Netherton, was’ born in Balton, Lancashire, England and came out to New Zealand in July, 1930, on the Ruahine, having his twenty-first birthday at sea. His first job after arriving in New Zealand was with Mr A. J. Young, of Netherton, and after fanning in both the North and South Islands he took up cheese-making. He was first at the Netherton cheese factory and later at the Te Aroha West factory, enlisting from there.
He made his home with Mr and Mrs Sarjant, of Netherton. He was a very keen; golfer and was interested'. in all kinds of sport. He was ■member of the Oddfellows Lodged while in Te Aroha. Sergeant Walker served for seven months in Fiji before going to the Middle East He was promoted to sergeant in May, 1942. While ba Egypt Sergeant Walker transferred from the infantry to the
