MEMORIAL SERVICE HELD STAR OF PAEROA LODGE HALF-YEARLY MEETING HELD (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of May 21, 1903) The Gradford' memorial service was hels in the Criterion Theatre on Sunday morning, and was well attended, the building being filled in all parts. The Battalion Band, under Conductor Gordon, was present, as well as a large number of volunteers, under the charge of Lieut.Colonel Porritt. Appropriate addresses were given by the Rev. McArthur and the Rev. Belton, the remarks of these gentlemen\ being principally addressed to the* volunteers. Miss Ivy Vuglar presided at the organ, while Mr J. Reid conducted the choir. The collection taken up is to be donated to the Veterans’ Home. At the conclusion of the service the band played the Dead March as a token of respect to the late Trooper Bradford. The half-yearly meeting of the' Star of Paeroa Lodge of Druids on Monday nights was well attended, Bro. W. Nicol, A.D., presiding. Bros. Harvey (Arch Druid) and McLean (Vice Druid) of the Alexandra Lodge, were in attendance, and received a hearty Druidic welcome. Officers for the ensuing half-year were nominated, and the election will take place at the next meeting of the lodge. After the business of the evening was concluded, a couple of enjoyable hours were spent in harmony, songs being renderedl by several of those present. The cribbage tournament commenced some time ago was concluded, Bro. Fielder being the winner.
