OFFICERS WELCOMED

SALVATION ARMY FUNCTION ADJUTANT & MRS ARMSTRONG The officers newly appointed to the charge of the Salvation Army Corps in Paeroa, Adjutant and Mrs Armstrong, were publicly welcomed at a well-attended gathering held in the Army Hall on Thursday... evening. Mrs T. (Comrade) Aitken presided, and the greetings and good wishes extended to the guests from, the chair were supplemented by words of welcome from Mr T. H. Jamieson (representing the Paeroa Presbyterian Church), Rev. J. R. Nelson (Paeroa Methodist Church), Bandmaster E. Brock (Taumarunui), Mr D. I. Prime (representing the Paeroa Saturday night united fellowship meeting) and Mr W. Caddy (on behalf of the corps).

In responding, Adjutant and Mrs Armstrong voiced their gratitude for the cordial welcome extended to them, and for the assurance of the co-operation and prayers of the members of the corps, and of representatives of the Christian organisations in Paeroa. They stated that their one aim was to glorify God and extend His Kingdom in Paeroa and district, and while giving of their best to their own immediate work in the Army, they would gladly and willingly co-operate with other Christian people and institutions in seeking to bring men and women to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, which was their supreme task.

Tribute was also paid by the incoming officers to the work of their predecessors, Major and Mrs Moore, during their 3i years’ officership, and the hope was expressed that the new order of things might prove even more happy and fruitful. They desired above all to be of help and service to all who sought their aid. Incidentally, Adjutant Armstrong •made appreciative reference to Bandwaster Brock, of Taumarunui, whose references to their own worx in Taumarunui had been so kind, and who himself, as bandmaster and in other avenues of service, had proved such a tower of strength to the Taumaru-

nui cause. . Bandmaster Brock, who read the I Scripture lesson and played the j organ accompaniments to choruses ! sung during the evening, is a former 1 resident of Paeroa. I A happy and successful function i conducted wi.h the serving of supper.
