HAURAKI WEST BOARD GRANT FOR THE STOPBANK £2OOO FOR CURRENT YEAR A meeting of the Hauraki West Drainage Board .was held at Ngatea recently, the chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt, presiding. Others present were Messrs T. A. McClean, J. DonA. Douglas, H. T. P. Evans, F. Pinchess and the clerk, Mr F. E. 'Hammond. The drainage engineer wrote advising that Cabinet had approved of further £2OOO expenditure for 194344 for reconstruction of stopbanks provided the board contributed £5OO as in previous years. Mr Donaghy moved that Mr Benney be granted permission to put in a culvert of not less than ,4ft. diameter pip£s provided that the pipes be not less than 18 inches below drain bottom and laid on boards to the satisfaction of the board’s foreman. This was seconded by Mi’ McClean and carried.

The matter of letting contracts for the main road drains between Davidson’s drain and the saleyards corner was left in the hands of Mr Douglas.

Mr Ken. Caie was appointed supervisor 1 of Beaver’s floodgate at £1 per year from April i, 1943 and Mr F. Mounsey £2 per year from same date for Murray-Mounsey floodgate at •Canal and the same drain floodgate at Mahuta. The clerk was instructed to notify Mr Stewart, the owner of the land abutting on Mahuta drain respecting necessity for putting fences in. order on Mahutu drain, also Mr E. Keane abutting on Settlers drain, Mr Cliff Torr on Settlers West drain, and Mr Pearson regarding Billings, requiring the latter to keep pigs out of the board’s drains adjacent to hisvpiggeries otherwise proceedings must be taken.

It was decided that penalties be imposed on all rates unpaid at May 25, 1943. . j ; The chairman was authorised to purchase the timber required for stop-bank at the flood pump at Appletree outlet. Mr Pinchess was authorised to have Beaver’s floodgate repaired and put in order.
