POLITICAL ARENA

INTEREST INCREASING CANDIDATES IN PROSPECT • THE HAURAKI ELECTORATE At Morrinsville recently Mr R. G. Young was endorsed/at the Real Democracy ' Movement’s candidate for the Hauraki electorate at the forthcoming general election. A returned soldier of the Great War, Mr Young has been farming at Gordonton since 1919. He has. filled the position of chairman of the Taupiri Drainage Board, and is a member of the Waikato County Council and also ' Power Board. The sitting member is Mr A. S. Sutherland (Opposition).

Mr H. T. Head, who opposed the sitting member as an Independent at the by-election for the seat, has also announced his candidature.

Thames Electorate Although there has been no official announcement to date it has been stated by the man in the street that Mr J. Thorn (Labour), the. sitting member’ for Thames, will again contest the seat. The same position applies regarding the National Party. No official announcement has been made as to who will contest the seat in its interests although it has been rumoured that Mr W. A. Clark,' of Te Arolia, will be the candidate.

Waikato Electorates The position in the Waikato electorates has not yet excited interest. It seems that the sitting member for Waikato, Mr W. S. Goosman '(National), and Mr W. j. Broadfoot (National), member for Waitomo, will be ■ Mf* seeking re-election. • In the Raglan electorate the present representative is the Hon. W. Lee Martin (Labour), but he intimated some time ago that he would not seek re-election on account of indifferent health. In his stead, it was stated, Mr R. Coulter, of Te Aroha, a former M.P. for Waikato, would be the selected party nominee, and there (seems every reason to expect Mr Coulter will go to the polls. Opposing* him, apparently, will be a National Party representative not yet chosen. The candidate provisionally selected on a former occasion was Mr R. J. Glasgow, of Onewhero. Latest developments indicate that the Real Democracy Movement will have' a representative, though the name of the candidate has not yet been anonunced. A Democratic Soldier Labour Party candidate, Warrant-Officer II K. B. Ansley, of Otahuhu, will also contest the seat. Franklin. Candidate Mr F. A. Carlisle, of Waiuku, has announced that lie intends to contest the Franklin seat at the general election as an Independent candidate. The seat is held by Mr J .N. Massey, Opposition member, who recently declared his intention of standing as an Independent National. 1 Meanwhile electors who expect to take an intelligent interest in the • elections and the future good government of the Dominion would be well advised to see that their names are on the electoral roll.
