ROADS IN VERY BAD STATE KEREPEEHI HOSPITAL MORE MONEY WANTED FOR SITE (From the Hauraki Plains Gazette of May 19, 1923) Owing to the continuous wet weather, many of the roads on the Plains are now in a very bad state. The unmetalled roads are practically impassable. Another slip occurred on the Puhonga canal road on Friday evening, and a Ngatea tradesman had an exciting experience for a few moments. Around Turua enormous holes have developed in the roads. Even the red roads are very slippery for motor cars. A public meeting was held at Kerepeehi on Friday evening to discuss raising the balance of the money required to purchase the hospital site at Kerepeehi. The secretary reported that the sum realised to date was £ll3, and the sum necessary was £146. Others were desirous of purchasing the -proposed site and it was necessary to get moving at once. He suggested examining the various lists returned and to see who had not and offered to interview the defaulters. Mr Thompson suggested an entertainment, and Mr -H. Ward moved that a plain and fancy dress masquerade ball be held late in June. Complete arrangements were made to ensure the function being a thorough success.
