PURIRI FAREWELL
PRESENTATION FROM SETTLERS M'R & MRS HILTON HONOURED A farewell evening was tendered' to Mr and Mrs L. P. B. Hilton recently in the Puriri Hall. Mr Hilton has been headmaster of the Puriri School for the past six years, and has been appointed headmaster at Waimeha, King Country. The Home .Guard, School Committee, Parents’ Association and many residents of Puriri and the surrounding districts were present. The New Collegians’ Orchestra supplied excellent music, and Mr R. Hunter played extras. The chairman of the School Committee, Mr R. E. Moyle, representing the committee and residents, and Mr W. Flooks, representing the Parents’ Association, spoke of the services rendered to the community by both Mr and Mrs Hilton, and wished them every success in their new sphere. Mr A. Maxwell (Matatoki), also spoke on behalf of <B Company, Home Guard, and said that Mr Hilton had been in charge of the Puriri platoon since its inception. He wished Mr Hilton all success in the future. At the conclusion of the valedictory speeches and formal presentation of' a very handsome dinner-set and teaset, Master J. Moyle presented Mrs Hilton with a bouquet. Mr Hilton, on behalf of his wife and himself, thanked all sincerely for the magnificent gift and also all those concerned with the organisation of the evening, particularly the committee which had been formed to carry it into effect. He referred in appreciation to the co-operation and kindnesses received from all members of the district, especially in matters pertaining to the school. Mr R. E. Moyle Avas M.C.
