INSTITUTE FAREWELL
FUNCTION HELD AT PURIRI THREE PRESENTATIONS MADE The Puriri Women’s Institute recently organised a farewell social afternoon to three of its members who are leaving the district. There was a large gathering of members from Wharepoa, Matatoki and Omahu. The guests of the afternoon were Mrs M. Morison, who had resided in the district for the past 38 years and who now leaves to live in Auckland, Mrs L. P. B. Hilton, the president of the Institute, who leaves for Waimeha, where her husband has been appointed schoolmaster, and Mrs H. Cook, who is leaving for the duration of the war and will reside at Ngatea. Mrs J. McLiver presided, and Mrs W. Reed made the presentations. A very enjoyable musical programme was provided, the following artists contributing: — Miss Ethel Cribb, pianoforte solo; Master Allan ■Green (Omahu), song; Miss Phyllis Reed, pianoforte solo; Miss Peggy Hunter, songs; Mrs Ball (Havelock North), pianoforte solo; Miss Josie Brady, songs and accordion solo.
i Competitions were won by Mrs A. ' Green (lucky door) and Mrs Brady 1 (humorous story). I After afternoon tea was served, Mrs i Reed made the presentations. The i guests in turn made individual speeches'and thanked the ladies for the afternoon and useful gifts. The function concluded with the singing of u God Defend New Zealand. ’
