ette of May 14, 1923.) At the recent meeting of the Plunket Society in Paeroa, Mrs P. E. Brenan intimated that that meeting would be her last public-

appearance in the capacity of Mayoress. She took the opporz tunity of expressing grateful thanks to the ladies of Paeroa for their loyal help and' co-operation during her term of office. The speaker added that she hoped the same assistance would be accorded the Mayoress elect, Mrs W. Marshall. The annual meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce held last night was a lengthy one, and an adjournment had to be made until next Tuesday in order to clean up the order paper. The following were present: The president (Mr E. W. Porritt), vice-president (Mr D. Leach) and

Messrs B. Stansfield, F. J. Wells, E. A. Porritt, L. E. Cassrels, G. Buchanan, W. Marshall, W. D. Nicholas, G. S. Taiboys, W. Robson, A. Steedman, P. E. Brenan, E. Edwards, G. P. de Castro and T. P. Vuglar. An apology was received from the secretary, Mr J. Couper.
