PROBLEM AT HOSPITAL

VISITING HOURS REDUCED STAFF SERIOUSLY DEPLETED Due to staff shortages, both nursing and domestic, a serious position has arisen at the Waihi Hospital and in the emergency and in the interests of all Waihi, visiting hours have been reduced to Sunday only, advised the Manpower Officer, Mr R. W. Chappell in an interview with a Gazette representative on Thursday. Continuing, Mr Chappell stated that Waihi girls registered for work of national importance have been directed to report immediately at the hospital and the co-operation of all citizens was appealed for, both parents and-’ employers', in assisting in overcoming the present serious staff shortage. Restriction In Beds In assuring the representative of this paper that-the National Service ■Department desired to be as reasonable as possible in the direction of Waihi girls, Mr Chappell pointed out that all the girls directed to the hospital have their homes in Waihi and are from families who appreciate the seriousness of the position. Mr Chappell in conclusion pointed out that the position was so serious that the iboard controlling the Waihi Hospital was faced with the possible restriction of bed accommodation during the emergency. Such a step is of vital importance to the welfare of every resident of Waihi.
