PUPILS’ IMPROMPTU CONCERT
A very pleasant function took on Thursday afternoon at the Hikutaia Public .School when the pupils entertained the headmaster, Mr J. Bell and Mrs Bell and the lady teachers of the staff to, an impromptu concert and afternoon tea. Mr 1 Bell, who has been headmaster of the Hikutaia school for a number of years, has been transferred to another district and will be leaving the school at the end of this term' and the pupils organised the concert as a farewell to him.
Before afternoon tea was served by the senior girls Master i Gordon Dennison, on behalf of all the pupils, presented Mr and Mrs Bell with a handsome reading lamp and an electric heater.
In making the presentation, Master Dennison said how very sorry all the children were that Mr and Mrs Bell were leaving Hikutaia and they hoped that every time they used their gifts they would remember all of them. They wished them well in their new school and district. ,
Replying, Mr Bell thanked all the children very much and said how they appreciated their kind words and gifts and he could only say how sorry they were to be leaving Hikutaia.
Mrs Bell also added her appreciation and thanks.
The function was brought to a close with the singing of “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” and cheers for Mr and Mrs Bell. \
