SPORTS AT KOPUARAHI

PATRIOTIC FUNDS AIDED

RACING, JUMPING, STEER RIDING

There was a very large attendance at the Kopuarahi Patriotic Sports Carnival on Saturday last when a lengthy and most interesting programme of horse racing, competitions and steer racing events was run off. In spite of threatening weather conditions no rain fell during the day and a splendid day’s sport was enjoyed by both onlookers and competitors, while the patriotic funds must have benefitted by 9a considerable sum.

An energetic committee headed by Mr L. James, had everything well organised and kept things going with, a

good,swing, all events being run off promptly, a fact which greatly pleased all present. The results of th races and competitions were as follow: — Maiden hunter.—B. Fox 1, R. P. (Clark 2, M. James 3, Hairy leg scurry (handicap, 5 fur.) —O. Young 1, N. Clevely 2, R. Nash 3. Bending competition.—K. Green 1, C. Murdockx 2. N. Arden 3.

Polo pony cup (4 fur.), for horses owned and played by any member of a polo club.—Mrs M. Bailey 1, R. Henry 2, O. Young 3. Stockman competition.—K. Green 1, L. James 2, R. Henry 3.

Open hunter. —R. Henry 1, E. Crawford 2, O. Young 3.
