CROQUET AFTERNOON NEW SCHOOL COMMITTEE TIROHIA POST OFFICE OPENED (From the Hauraki Plains Gazette of May 10, 1923) Last Saturday afternoon, one of the vice-presidents of the Paeroa Ladies’ Croquet Club, Mrs Conolly, gave an afternoon toi the club members on the local lawn. Progressive croquet was played, and after some very keen and in- ' teresting finishes, Mrs Taiboys was declared the winner of the trophy by a narrow margin, During the afternoon a dainty afternoon tea was served.
The newly-elected District High School Committee has commenced its work in rather an energetic' manner. On Saturday afternoon last some of the members formed a working bee and their energies were directed on levelling a portion of the playground prior to its being sanded. Unfortunately heavy rain fell and prevented it being completed.
As from this morning a new post office has been opened at Tirohia and will receive one mail inwards daily. The office is in the charge of Mr A. L. Pendergrast. The settlers contemplate building a room on to the house ■of Mr Prendergrast to enable the work of the post office to be carried out there. The establishment of a post office will supply a long-felt want and the- settlers are to be congratulated on their enterprise and, through preparing to help themselves, the Government has not delayed in doing its share in the work.
