STRAY STOCK ON THE ROADS
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I notice in the Gazette a complaint to the Thames County Council regarding the nuisance of cattle on the Coast road at Taames. I hereby wish to endorse what Mr Douglas says. The stock is there. I happened to be with Mr Douglas on a recent trip to Coromandel and the stock was there alright, two lying between tae
roadway and the watertable and other stock grazing opposite. There was also plenty of evidence by the droppings on a vacant lot adjoining. Further, on Saturday, April 17, I could not avoid an accident on the Ngarua road, between Ngatea andKaihere, running into and killing a. yearling heifer which came very near to putting me over the bank. Visibility was bad at the time due to a heavy fog. Coming home again in the evening, w i h the fog settled down, I just barely avoided collecting another of the same cattle in spi e of the fact that I was on the watch for them. Yes. Sir, Mr Douglas is right, there is plenty of stray stock on the roads these oays, and on certain roads with th? prevailing weather conditions, are a real danger to motorists. —I am, euc., W. H. CLARK. Patetonga, 23:4:43.
