SOLDIERS FAREWELLED
WAITAKARURU FUNCTIONS DISTRICT PRESENTATIONS During the last month two successful dances were held in the Waitakaruru Hall, when' residents of the district gathered to farewell a number of district soldiers on leave.
On the first occasion, Corporal Hardwicke and Privates D. Sears, C. Arthur and K. Roycroft were honoured. Mr Paton, chairman of the committee responsible for the function, presented each man with a -useful present, and on behalf of the residents wished them Godspeed and a safe return. All four men have been resident in the district for many years, and the large crowd preseht was a true indication of their popularity. The Canal road orchestra supplied dance music and supper was dispensed by Canal road ladies.
At the second function, Mr Thomson, of Kaiaua, was farewelled. He has resided in the Waitakaruru district for a number, of years.
